Men's Track and Field Teams Open Spring Season at Stony Brook Quad Meet

Track Preview

Men's Track and Field | March 22, 2017

PHILADELPHIA- The men's track and field will kick off the spring season this weekend as they head to the Stony Brook Quad Meet at Stony Brook on Thursday, March 24.

The meet will mark a chance for La Salle to put the winter training to the test after several individual and team successes throughout the indoor season.

"[The indoor season] is a really great period in our training cycle to work on things that we're going need the last four weeks of the outdoors season," said head coach Tom Peterson. "It's important not to lose sight of what we're working on right now that will make us the best version of ourselves that we can be at the end of the year.

Justin Guerre set a new standard for himself for the upcoming spring season after setting the school record in both the 60m dash and the 300m event in the first weekend of the indoor season at the Jack Pyrah Invitational.

Guerre ran a 6.89 in the 60m and a 35.21 in the 300m to establish a new school record at the Jack Pyrah. He also placed first at the Giegengack Invitational in the 200m race with a time of 22.21.

Chris Sanders will build off of a successful 2016 spring campaign, where he showcased his talent at the Olympic Trials in the 800m. Over the indoor season, Sanders advanced to the finals at the IC4AC/ECAC Championship and clocked a time of 1:51.71 to finish seventh overall.

Stephen Lewandowski earned his indoor highlight at the Indoor Atlantic 10 Championship, where he finished fifth in the mile thanks to a time of 4:12.58.

Fran Ferruzzi also earned a fifth place finish for the Explorers in the A-10 Indoor Championship when he led a trio of La Salle runners in the 3000m event. Ferruzzi clocked a time of 8:29.76 and will return to compete for La Salle in the spring.

After a third place team finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship last spring, Peterson will look to utilize his runners to repeat this same successful outcome.

"That was a really great weekend, we took advantage of every position, every point that we could possibly get," said Peterson. "And I think if we're going to be that successful this year as well, we're going to have to do that again. Similar to every conference meet, but last year we really squeezed points from every place we could. That's really the key to us being successful."

La Salle will continue the spring campaign at the Colonial Relays in Fairfax, Va. on Friday, March 31 with racing stretching until Sunday, April 2.
