STONY BROOK, N.Y.- The men's track and field team participated in the first meet of the spring season on Thursday, March 23 at Stony Brook University. Among the schools present were Columbia, Providence, Iona and Stony Brook.
The team finished in second overall against the field, with 81 points on the day.
Justin Guerre grabbed La Salle's best finish of the day when he topped the field in the 100m dash, clocking a time of 11.26.
Isaiah Akil led a trio of Explorers in the 200m dash, finishing sixth in a time of 23.63. Freshman Jordan Patterson (24.29) and junior
Michael Hagan (25.27) also competed.
Gregory Dix and
Dallas Penny made their spring season debuts in the 400m dash, with Dix clocking a time of 54.79, while Penny followed behind with a time of 56.88.
Trent Mangold,
Joseph Leconey and
Stefan Sutton competed in the 800m race. Mangold led the way with a time of 1:59.02 to place fourth overall, while Leconey clocked a time of 2:00.73 to finish sixth. Sutton recorded a time of 2:08.14 to wrap up La Salle's performance in the event.
Five Explorers represented La Salle in the 1500m run.
Brendan Robertson crossed the line third, in a time of 4:02.66 to lead the group.
Freshman
Anthony Hawthorne finished eighth overall when he clocked a time of 4:06.38.
John Pujols (4:15.33),
Chris Trimble (4:19.85) and Dominic Mussoline (4:27.91) also made their season debuts.
Six Explorers appeared in the 3000m event, with senior
Stephen Lewandowski (8:59.18) leading the pack with a 20
th place finish. Robertson followed behind in 21
st with a time of 8:59.24, while
Bradley Heuer (8:59.40) and
Fran Ferruzzi (8:59.42) took 23
rd and 24
th in the field.Â
Dylan Titon (9:02.27) and
Andrew Gorsuch (9:07. 18) also competed.
A trio of Explorers in
Ache Hall, Hagan and Jordan Patterson competed for La Salle in the 400m hurdles event.
Ache Hall led in third place, thanks to a time of 59.11. Hagan (1:00.04) and Patterson (1:00.23) followed in fourth and fifth respectively.
A 4x100m relay clocked a time of 44.05 to finish third overall, while a 4x800m team finished in second with a time of 7:58.58.
Zakiyy Williams leapt a 1.72m distance in the high jump to place third in the field. He added a second place finish in the long jump with a 6.43m jump.
Hall finished in fifth in the triple jump, with a leap of 12.46m.
Stephen Pierce competed in the shot put, finishing third in the field with a throw of 10.09m. He also made an appearance in the discus throw, finishing second overall thanks to a hurl of 33.38m.
Trimble represented La Salle in the javelin, finishing sixth with a throw of20.40m.
