PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle softball team dropped a pitcher's duel against the Quakers 2-1 on Thursday night at Penn Park.
La Salle's
Kristin Martin tripled with one out in the top of the 7
th with the game tied 1-1. The Explorers then loaded the bases after walks by
Angelina Refice and
Michelle Hagarty but couldn't take the lead.
Penn's Jennifer Brann reached on a fielder's choice in the 7th and stole second base before scoring the game-winning run on an Alexis Sargent single.
Reilly Gearhart (L, 1-4) pitched the final 2.1 innings in relief of La Salle starter
Marlo Roadcap.
Roadcap yielded one run in 4.0 innings, striking out five while issuing just one walk.
Valerie Pineiro gave the Explorers a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the top of the 1
st after a
Christina Bascara two-out single.
Bascara and
Mackenzie Obert both finished 2-for-4 while Martin went 2-for-2 after entering the game as a pinch-hitter in the 5
th.
The Explorers will open A-10 play this weekend at George Mason. La Salle is scheduled to play a doubleheader with the Patriots on Saturday afternoon before the series finale at noon on Sunday.
