Explorers Rally Past UNF to Earn Split on Day Two of North Florida Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The La Salle softball team engineered a late rally to top North Florida 5-4 on Saturday afternoon after a 4-2 loss to Albany earlier in the day at the UNF Invitational.

Albany 4, La Salle 2
Albany broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the top of the 6th on a solo homer by Elizabeth Snow and an RBI single by Sarah Petzold.

The Explorers had the tying run in scoring position with two outs in the 7th but couldn't get the timely hit. Mackenzie Obert drew a walk with two outs in the 7th and moved to third on a Christina Bascara double to left. However, Bailey Turner (W, 2-1) was able to slam the door for the Great Danes and tally the complete-game.

Reilly Gearhart (L, 0-2) allowed four runs (two earned) in 5.1 innings before McKenzie Peace was called upon for the final five outs.

La Salle 5, UNF 4
The Explorers scored four runs in the top of the 7th to take the lead and Marlo Roadcap (W, 4-0) pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the inning to complete the come-from-behind win.

Down 4-1 heading into the 7th, Obert singled up the middle with the bases loaded to bring two runs home before a Bascara single put runners on second and third with two outs. Suzanne Swanicke then drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with a double down the right field line.

Amanda Blanchard (L, 3-2) took the loss for the Ospreys, entering for one out in the 7th but surrendering two runs. Roadcap, meanwhile, pitched a complete game, tying a career-high with nine K's while giving up four runs on eight hits and three walks.

La Salle finishes up the UNF Invitational on Sunday with a 10 AM game on Sunday against Western Carolina.
