ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. –
Marlo Roadcap fanned a career-high 13 hitters as the La Salle softball (11-12) team defeated St. Bonaventure (7-18) 4-2 in the series opener at Joyce Field on Saturday.
Roadcap (W, 5-4) topped her previous high of nine strikeouts in the complete-game effort. The lefty limited SBU to a pair of runs on four hits and two walks.
La Salle scored twice in the 1
st inning and added another run in the 2
nd to take a 3-0 lead early.
Christina Bascara was hit by a pitch to lead off the game and
Angelina Refice reached on a throwing error that allowed both runners to move into scoring position.
Mackenzie Peace then grounded to short and reached on a throwing error that brought in both runs. The Explorers added a run in the 2
nd after
Emma Schweigert and
Michelle Hagarty hit back-to-back singles and Schweigert scored on a
Jackie Heim fielder's choices grounder.
St. Bonnies made it a 3-2 game in the 3
rd but Bascara pushed the La Salle lead to 4-2 with an RBI single in the 6
th. Roadcap faced just seven hitters over the final two frames.
La Salle will conclude the series Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader at Joyce Field beginning at noon.
