Softball Splits DH at St. Bonaventure to Earn Series Win

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The La Salle softball team (12-13, 3-3 A-10) won the second game of a doubleheader at St. Bonaventure (8-20, 1-2 A-10) 6-2 on Sunday to clinch a series win in the three-game set. The Explorers dropped the opening game of the DH 8-6 after a 4-2 win on Saturday.

St. Bonaventure 8, La Salle 6
The Explorers connected for a season-high 13 hits and scored twice in the top of the 7th but couldn't overcome a strong start from SBU. Mackenzie Obert was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and Suzanne Swanicke, Emma Schweigert, Michelle Hagarty and Lindsey Gaines all had two hits.

Swanicke doubled in a run in the top of the 1st but SBU scored two unearned runs against Marlo Roadcap (L, 5-5) in their half of the 1st. Roadcap ended up throwing 2.1 innings while allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk.

Obert's two-run shot put La Salle back in front briefly in the 3rd before SBU scored four unanswered runs to take a 6-3 lead. Hagarty doubled in a run in the 4th to cut the deficit to 6-4 but the Bonnies got two runs back in the 5th.

La Salle 6, St. Bonaventure 2
Reilly Gearhart (W, 3-5) allowed just one earned run in seven frames, scattering six hits and two walks while striking out four. The freshman had a shutout going until the Bonnies scored twice in the 7th, but the Explorers had secured a 6-0 lead by that point and were able to halt the rally.

Emma Schweigert walked with the bases loaded in the 4th to get La Salle on the board and Kristin Martin drove in a run with a fielder's choice grounder to make it 2-0.

La Salle scored four runs in the 5th thanks to a Mackenzie Obert two-run homer, a solo shot by Taylor Rohrbaugh and an RBI single from Martin. La Salle had nine hits on the afternoon.

The Explorers will play a doubleheader at Lafayette on Wednesday before they host the George Washington Colonials next weekend for their first home action of the season.
