Roadcap Shutout Highlights DH Split at Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – The La Salle softball team (13-14) split a doubleheader at Lafayette (4-13) on Wednesday afternoon at Metzgar Fields. Marlo Roadcap tossed a complete-game shutout in the opener before the Leopards scored three late runs to steal a 3-2 win in the finale.

Emma Schweigert doubled in two runs in the 4th and Roadcap (W, 6-5) cruised to a four-hit shutout as the Explorers handled the Leopards in the opening game. Roadcap fanned nine compared to one walk and didn't allow a runner past second base.

Schweigert broke a scoreless tie with a two-run double with two outs in the 4th after Mackenzie Obert and Suzanne Swanicke roped back-to-back singles with one out.

Christina Bascara walked to start the 6th inning, moved to second on a Michelle Hagarty sacrifice bunt and scored to make it 3-0 on a throwing error by Lafayette starter Stacy Gordon (L, 2-5).

The Leopards scored three runs (two earned) in the bottom of the 6th against Reilly Gearhart (L, 3-6) to erase a 2-0 La Salle lead before the Explorers went down in order in the top of 7th.

Lafayette had runners on the corners with one out in the 6th when a Jenna Orlando squeeze bunt brought in a run to make it 2-1. McKenzie Peace then entered for Gearhart but a Maddie Wensel infield single tied the game and a La Salle throwing error gave Lafayette a 3-2 lead.

La Salle had scored twice in the top of the 6th after a Taylor Rohrbaugh RBI single and a sac fly by Emma Schweigert. The Explorers had eight hits in the second game, including two hits apiece from Christina Bascara and Angelina Refice
