PHILADELPHIA – Marlo Roadcap struck out a career-high 15 batters in the opening game of a doubleheader against George Washington (17-17, 2-6) to help the Explorers (14-15, 4-4) to a 5-2 win and a doubleheader split with Colonials on Saturday at West Campus Field.

Roadcap (W, 7-5) scattered eight hits and two walks with the 15 strikeouts, surpassing her previous career-high of 13 in the complete-game effort. The Explorers used a three-run 5th to take the lead for good after GW tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the inning.

Valerie Pineiro gave the Explorers a 1-0 lead in the 2nd with an RBI single to center that scored Taylor Rohrbaugh. La Salle went up 4-1 in the 5th on a Suzanne Swanicke RBI single and a Rohrbaugh sac fly after a GW fielding error allowed Tori Gollie to score.

After GW cut the lead to 5-2 in the 6th, Michelle Hagarty answered for La Salle with an RBI single in the home half of the 6th.

George Washington 13, La Salle 2
The Colonials charged five runs in the top of the 1st to Reilly Gearhart (L, 3-7), although only two were earned after a La Salle fielding error put runners on first and second with no outs. McKenzie Peace entered with two outs in the 1st but didn't fare much better, surrendering five runs over 3.1 innings.

Suzanne Swanicke homered in the 4th for La Salle's only runs and made it a 10-2 game. The Colonials added three runs in the 5th against Val Buehler before La Salle went down in order in the bottom of the 5th against Faith Weber (W, 2-4).

The Explorers will go for the series win on Sunday as they host the Colonials at noon at West Campus Field.
