PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University baseball team notched its second consecutive home win on a breezy but beautiful Wednesday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field. The win, a 4-2 victory over Delaware State, was retribution for the Hornets defeating the Explorers earlier this year by the same score.
The Explorers had yet another balanced attack on offense with six batters reaching base safely.
Rafael Amanau was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI single to score
Ben Faso for La Salle's first run of the game in the sixth inning. Faso singled in the game as well and has at least one hit in nine of his last ten games.
Two innings later,
Yan Carlo Rivera singled through the right side to score
Connor Hinchliffe and
Zach Wright. Austin Constanini doubled to advance Rivera home in the next at bat. In all, the Explorers scored three runs in the eighth inning.
Michael Flax picked up the win for La Salle with two innings pitched and one unearned run allowed. Jared Mattara drew the start and threw four innings, striking out three and giving up one run. Erik Janns and Ray Jackson combined to throw three scoreless innings in relief.
Head Coach
Mike Lake and the Explorers will get back to action on Friday when they begin a three-game weekend home series with Davidson starting at 3:00 PM.
