Explorers Edged by Lock Haven in Overtime

PHILADELPHIA- The Explorers were overcome by Lock Haven in a heartbreaking 2-1 final score on Friday at Hank DeVincent in the opening day of Atlantic 10 play.

The Explorers opened the game behind when Lock Haven's Mackenzie Farley snuck past goalkeeper Emma Provost to give themselves a 1-0 advantage midway through the second half.

The teams continued to battle it out under the hot sun as La Salle attempted to even the score. Logan Oh was able to sneak a shot past the Bald Eagles at 26 minutes into play for her first goal of the season. Oh accepted a pass from outside the circle to send the ball flying past goalkeeper Paige Stuppy's right-hand side into the corner of the goal.

The score remained knotted for the duration of the game to force overtime, despite a pair of shots from Mackenzie Karcher that were turned away by Stuppy late in the first half.

Oh also took a pair of shots to attempt to lift the Explorers over the Bald Eagles, but was ultimately thwarted by Stuppy. As the second half wound down, neither team could give themselves an advantage despite a late second half attempt from the Bald Eagles.

The Bald Eagles were finally able to score again in overtime, just under four minutes in on a corner play that gave Lock Haven the win.

In goal, Emma Provost made seven saves, including a spectacular at the end of regulation play that allowed the Explorers to give themselves another chance in overtime. Ultimately, it was not enough as the Explorers fell to 3-2 on the season.

La Salle will continue the two game home stand on Sunday, when the team welcomes Saint Louis for another A-10 matchup. The game is slated for 12:00 p.m.
