PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle volleyball team was topped by Colgate on Saturday to end the team's competition in the Colgate Invitational. With the loss, the Explorers fall to 9-6 on the season.
The Raiders got off to a strong start to open set one, capturing the first meeting 25-18. As Colgate charged ahead, the Explorers could not recover to gain a lead, despite four kills from
Reilly Lowe in the first set.
La Salle held their own in set two, going point-for-point with the Raiders as they trailed by just one until the 11-10 mark. Colgate used a four point run to jump ahead to control the remainder of the set, taking a 25-19 victory.
With a 2-0 disadvantage, the Explorers came out strong in the third set. La Salle fell behind by just one until the 18-17 mark, when the team used a five point run to force Colgate to take a timeout. The Raiders pushed past the Explorers again using a three point run to push the set into extended points.
Despite a kill from
Samantha Graver and one from
Devin Corah in the extended set, the Raiders outlasted La Salle to take the set 28-26 to claim the match.
Lowe, Graver and Corah all contributed eight kills for La Salle in the team's 36 total. Graver added two aces while Lowe recorded one in the Blue and Gold's four aces in the match.
Jensen Sharrits recorded 10 digs, while
Kathryn Wood contributed 27 assists in the loss.
Lowe and Sharrits were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts over the three matches this weekend.
La Salle will begin conference play next weekend with a pair of matchups at Tom Gola Arena. The team welcomes George Washington on Friday at 7:00 p.m. before facing George Mason on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
