Men's Water Polo | September 18, 2017

PHILADELPHIA  - The men's water polo team defeated Villanova at home on Monday by a score of 23-16. The game was the first of two on the night and the only home events of the season for the team.

The Explorers looked strong in the early going as Trevin Zweifel netted La Salle's first goal of the game followed by quick goals from Karl Miller and Huw Helman. Despite the offensive onslaught, Villanova proved to be a strong opponent and kept the score close through the first quarter of play. With minutes ticking down in the frame, Zweifel fired his second goal into the net.
 
Anthony Hidalgo started things off in the second quarter with an early goal that cut the Owain Lewellyn scored two goals towards the end of the period to give La Salle its first lead of the game. The Explorer defense stepped it up in the second quarter as well, allowing just three goals and tying the score at 12.
 
Zweifel scored the first two goals of the second half in the midst of a 10-3 run for the Blue and Gold. The run, which included five goals in a row, gave La Salle a commanding lead that they didn't surrender.
 
Zweifel finished with a team-high five goals. Miller was right behind him with four.

Game two was much more of a defensive contest. La Salle built an early lead with goals from Jeff Brady, Daniel Domotor, and Miller. 

With a 10-5 lead in the fourth quarter, Brady added three consecutive to his total of seven on the day.

Both wins marked the third and fourth time this season that La Salle reached double digit scoring. 

Head coach Paul Macht and his team will get back into the pool on Saturday when the begin a four-game Atlantic 10 weekend in Washington, Pa. The weekend starts with McKendree at 9:00 AM.
