PHILADELPHIA – The MAWPC East end of year awards were announced on Wednesday with La Salle receiving ample recognition. Head coach
Tom Hyham picked up Coach of the Year honors, senior
Daniel Domotor landed on First Team All-Conference, while senior
Cole Strohson, sophomore
Callin Chimilar and freshman
Veljko Kotarica were named to Second Team All-Conference.
Under Hyham's stewardship, the Explorers increased their winning percentage from .207 in 2019 to .375 in 2021, going 3-5 in an abbreviated year. They doubled their conference wins with an increased winning percentage from .083 to .333. Hyham then guided the team to a landmark victory over George Washington in the semifinals of the MAWPC Championship, eventually finishing as runners-up in the tournament.
Domotor and Strohson were integral leaders on the team. La Salle's number seven powered the offense as the leading scorer on the team. Strohson did it all in the pool as the defensive enforcer and an offensive threat. Chimilar took an impressive second-year leap and became the team's second scoring option behind Domotor. Kotarica was spectacular in his debut campaign and kept La Salle in numerous games with save after save. All four players were named to the MAWPC Championship All-Tournament Team for their contributions to La Salle's run.
Hyham had this to say on his players' recognition: "Having four players make all-conference selections is a testament to the hard work this team put in this season. Daniel caps off an incredible collegiate career with another well deserved first team selection. Cole, Callin and Veljko have also proved this season that they are among the top players with their second team selections. I am very proud of everything these guys have given to the team this season, and also year after year for the older guys."
