PHILADELPHIA- In what was a scoreless 67 minutes of regulation play that threatened overtime, the La Salle field hockey team netted a goal with just under two minutes remaining to capture the win. Senior
Jess Hoffman accepted a pass from
April Stein at the 68:23 mark.
Hoffman took a stunning shot that arched above the Cardinals goalkeeper's outstretched pads into the goal that was the lone goal scored in the 1-0 final. Hoffman netted the first goal of her senior season, while Stein contributed her first assist.
With the win, La Salle improved to 3-1 overall.
In goal,
Emma Provost faced seven shots to keep the Cardinals at bay. She thwarted three shots goal in total.
Summer Pierson contributed a defensive save in the first half to hold Ball State down.Â
The Explorers will open conference play next Friday, meeting with Lock Haven for a 3:00 game at Hank DeVincent Field. They will face Saint Louis at home on Sunday, Sept. 15 to conclude the weekend.
