BRONX, N.Y. - The La Salle University men's indoor track and field team returned to action after a month-long layoff at the Mike Massone Invitational, held at the Lombardi Center Field House and hosted by Fordham University.
Four different Explorers won five events, including a double victory for junior
Zakiyy Williams in the long jump and triple jump.
Williams outdid six other competitors in the long jump, leaping a distance of 6.55 meters to best a pair of Stony Brook jumpers, who finished second and third. In the triple jump, the Mount Holly, N.J. product hit 13.71 meters to finish first by nearly a full meter.
In the sprints, senior
Justin Guerre notched a first-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.01. Teammates
Dante Wright and
Najee Smith closed in third (7.18) and fourth (7.20), respectively.
Freshman
Ethan Cook took home the individual win in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 22.97, while sophomore
Ache Hall edged Stony Brook's Micheal Linbrunner for the 60-meter hurdle gold by four-hundredths of a second.
Also showing well was the 4x400-meter relay team of Hall, Guerre, junior Isaiah Hall and freshman
Chase Campbell who finished second in a time of 3:27.06.
La Salle continues the indoor campaign at the Gulden Invitational, hosted by Bucknell, on Friday, Jan. 19.
