PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University men's basketball team will return home for the first time in nearly two weeks as it hosts Fordham in an Atlantic 10 contest at Tom Gola Arena at TruMark Financial Center on Wednesday, Jan. 17. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. The game will air live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network, with
Kale Beers and Rich Prendergast bringing fans all the action.
The first 350 students that arrive at the arena will receive free La Salle winter texting gloves, courtesy of La Salle Athletics. The game is also designated as a Full Court Press on ALS, to raise awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
NEWS & NOTES
•La Salle will look to snap a recent four-game losing skid, with the most recent coming in heartbreaking fashion at Duquesne on Jan. 13.
•The Explorers fell in triple overtime to the Dukes despite scoring a season-high 94 points.
•Redshirt junior
Pookie Powell led the charge with 26 points, while freshman
Jamir Moultrie contributed a career-high 17 off the bench.
•The contest was tight throughout and featured 15 ties and 33 lead changes.
•Powell and graduate student
Amar Stukes played a combined 97 minutes in the backcourt and finished with 10 assists against just one turnover.
•Sophomore
Isiah Deas played a career-high 55 minutes, matching another Big 5 player - Penn's Ryan Betley, for the single-game high among all NCAA Division I players this season.
•The game was the second straight in which La Salle has been extended beyond regulation, marking the first time since the 2001-02 season that the Explorers have played back-to-back overtime games.
SCOUTING FORDHAM
•The Rams are coming off a 75-45 loss to Davidson on Sunday afternoon in the Bronx.
•Fordham trailed by an 11-point margin at halftime but the Wildcats were able to outscore the home team, 38-19, in the second half.
•Perris Hicks had a team-high 15 points for the Rams, and was the only player to reach double figures.
•Will Tavares leads the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game, while Joseph Chartouny paces the squad in both rebounding (5.9 rpg), assists (70) and steals (62).
•Chartouny leads the nation in steals at 3.6 per outing.
•Head coach Jeff Neubauer, in his third season at the helm of the Rams, played basketball at La Salle from 1989-93, was a GTE Honorable Mention All-Academic selection and graduated cum laude with a degree in finance.
