KINGSTON, Rhode Island – The La Salle women's basketball team (6-13, 1-5 A-10) had four scorers in double figures but couldn't hold off a late at Rhode Island (3-17, 1-6) rally in a 72-63 loss to the Rams on Saturday afternoon at the Ryan Center.
Adreana Miller had a team-high 14 points, followed by 13 points from
Shaquana Edwards.
Shalina Miller went 6-for-7 from the floor on the way to 12 points while
Amy Griffin finished with 11.
The Rams used an 11-2 run late in the 4
th quarter to turn a tie game into a 67-58 lead with 2:29 to play. La Salle made a push earlier in the 4
th quarter, outscoring URI 8-1 in the opening two minutes to tie the game on an
Amy Griffin three-pointer with 8:26 left in regulation.
The Explorers took a brief 56-54 lead when Griffin hit a jumper on an inbounds play with 6:54 to go before the Rams caught fire.
Edwards hit a season-high four three-point field goals to account for 12 of her 13 points. The Explorers finished 8-for-21 (38.1%) from beyond the arc and 23-for-56 (41.1%) from the field.
La Salle returns home for a pair of games next week, including a 12 p.m. tip against VCU on Thursday for their annual kids game. The Explorers also host Saint Joseph's in Big 5 action on Sunday at 1 p.m.
