PHILADELPHIA - La Salle guard
Pookie Powell was named Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week, it was announced by the organization. The award comes after his performance in La Salle's 83-60 victory over Saint Louis on Dec. 30.
Powell registered 28 points and added seven rebounds for the Explorers, who earned a convincing win in their Atlantic 10 opener. The 6-0 guard picked up the scoring slack in the absence of leading scorer
B.J. Johnson, who missed the game due to injury.
Over his last four games, Powell has averaged 23.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 53.7 percent from the field.Â
La Salle (7-8, 1-1 A-10) returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 6 as it plays host to VCU at Tom Gola Arena. The contest will be broadcast nationally on NBC Sports Network, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
