Volleyball Comes Up Short at Duquesne, 3-1

PITTSBURGH - The La Salle University volleyball team went toe-to-toe early on and dominated the second set, but the Explorers came up just short at Duquesne in Atlantic 10 Conference action Friday night, 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • La Salle trailed 11-5 before working all the way back with a 9-2 run to go on top behind two service aces from junior Jennifer Edwards. After falling behind by as much as five, the Explorers saw match point after a Devin Corah kill, but Duquesne rattled off four straight points to take the set, 26-24.
  • The Explorers bounced right back in the second set and jumped out to leads of 9-3, 12-4 and 16-7 before pulling away after back-to-back kills by senior Madison Kuch to make it 22-13. A pair of Duquesne errors later made it easy for La Salle to close it out, 25-17, to tie the match at one all.
  • Both teams went back-and-forth to start the third set, as the score was knotted at 9-9 before Duquesne began to pull away. The Explorers got within two at 13-11, but the Dukes capped the set on a 12-4 run to snag the 25-15 win.
  • In the final set, La Salle jumped out to a 6-3 lead after a kill by junior Catherine Edgington. However, Duquesne gained control from there and never looked back, taking the set, 25-15, and the match, 3-1.
