PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University field hockey team overcame an early deficit by scoring three unanswered goals, then held on down the stretch to pick up a 3-2 victory over Davidson in an Atlantic 10 matchup on Sunday. Senior
Logan Oh accounted for the game-winning goal while junior
Amanda Chapin and sophomore
Taylor Hafer also scored for the Explorers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Davidson controlled the pace of play early on, and took the early advantage as Leigha Nortier tallied her fifth goal of the year.
- After a timeout by head coach Kelly Broadway, La Salle regrouped and upped the intensity and pressure.
- The Explorers eventually broke through in the 30th minute when Chapin, who had inserted a penalty corner just moments earlier, deflected home a ball from Karcher.
- Hafer quickly gave the home team a lead it would not relinquish a little more than two minutes later.
- A scrum in front of the net saw La Salle have numerous opportunities before Hafer poked a shot past Davidson goalkeeper Bean Rodriguez.
- La Salle continued to push forward in the second half, and Karcher nearly had a goal to go along with an assist in the 40th minute, when her shot from distance hit the left post.
- In the 48th minute, Oh also came close to scoring when her shot was denied by Wildcat defender Julia Smith.
- Oh would not be denied and put the score at 3-1 when she converted a feed from junior Chloe Lucky just 38 seconds after her initial chance.
- With time running down, Davidson cut into its deficit when Sydney McKenna converted a breakaway chance with less than four minutes left.
- The Explorers held on from there to improve to 7-8 overall and 2-4 in Atlantic 10 play.
- Davidson fell to 5-11 overall and 1-6 in league competition.
