Field Hockey Earns Second Straight Win; Edges Rider, 2-1

PHILADELPHIA - Junior Lauren Lechleitner scored the game-winning goal minutes into the second half and the La Salle University field hockey team withstood a late charge by Rider to come away with a 2-1 win at Hank DeVincent Field on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • La Salle jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead as senior Mackenzie Karcher rifled a shot from near the edge of the circle off a penalty corner from junior Amanda Chapin
  • The goal was Karcher's team-leading seventh on the season while for Chapin, it was her eighth assists which ties her for the team lead with senior Logan Oh.
  • The contest remained a one-goal game until early in the second half, when Lechleitner scored her fourth goal of the year to push the Explorers on top by a 2-0 margin.
  • Tess van Ommeren pulled the Broncs back to within one with a tally in the 51st minute, as she finished on an opportunity in front of cage.
  • Rider had a chance to tie the game with less than five minutes to go, but senior defender Megan Kida made a key defensive save on a shot on frame by Carly Brosius.
