Field Hockey Falls on Road to No. 12 Saint Joseph's

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Mackenzie Karcher registered her team-leading eighth goal of the season but No. 12 Saint Joseph's proved to be too much in a 7-1 loss at Ellen Ryan Field in Atlantic 10 field hockey action on Friday afternoon. The win was the 11th straight for the Hawks (15-2, 8-0 A-10), while the Explorers fall to 8-9 overall and 2-5 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • St. Joe's took a quick 1-0 lead just 2:32 into the contest when Tonya Botherway took advantage of a La Salle miscue and scored in front.
  • Sara Hayes tallied back-to-back goals for the Hawks to put them in front by a 3-0 margin with less than 10 minutes to go in the first half.
  • Karcher got one back for the Explorers just before halftime, as she converted on a one-on-one chance with St. Joe's goalkeeper Victoria Kammerinke, who entered the game ranked fifth in goals-against average in the country.
  • Following intermission, St. Joe's found a rhythm offensively and scored four unanswered goals to account for the final score.
  • Sophomore Emelynn Sneary totaled a career-high 15 saves in the match.
