Madison Kuch before the match. The set scores were 25-19, 25-11, 25-10.
With the win and a loss by Saint Louis, the Explorers clinched a playoff berth in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set was tight, but freshman Elizabeth Osborn gave La Salle a 13-8 lead with a service ace. But the Rams later went on a 6-1 run to tie the set at 18 all.
- The Explorers clung to a one-point lead in the opening frame, 20-19, before reeling off the final five points of the set, highlighted by another Osborn ace, to take a 25-19 set win.
- It was all La Salle in the second set as the Explorers leaped out to leads of 6-1 and 13-3. Leading by eight, back-to-back kills by junior Devin Corah sparked a 7-1 run to close out the second set, 25-11.
- La Salle continued where it left off, storming out to a double-digit lead in the third set. Ahead by 10, the Explorers capped off the match with five straight points behind three Corah kills and an ace by Sharrits, ending the final set, 25-10.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Corah had a match-high 14 kills on a .400 hitting percentage to go with two blocks.
- Kuch added 10 kills while hitting at a .381 clip, and junior Kathryn Wood logged 29 assists and six digs.
- As a team, the Explorers hit .263 while limiting Rhode Island to a lowly .019 kill percentage.
- The 16 wins for La Salle is the most by the Explorers since 1998. The A-10 tournament berth is La Salle's first in program history since joining the league in 1995.
