Volleyball Rolls to Sixth Consecutive Win with Sweep of Duquesne; Corah Gets 1,000th Kill

PHILADELPHIA - Junior Devin Corah recorded her 1,000th career kill as the La Salle University volleyball team won its sixth straight match Friday night, sweeping Atlantic 10 opponent Duquesne from Tom Gola Arena in the Explorers' home finale.

It was La Salle's first win over Duquesne since Oct. 15, 1999. The Explorers' 17 wins are also the most for the team since going 17-16 in 1998.

The set scores were 25-11, 25-23, 25-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Explorers came out on fire, dominating the first set. Corah opened the set with back-to-back kills, and La Salle leaped ahead 14-2 after an ace from senior Jensen Sharrits. Another Corah kill later pushed the lead to 15 as the Explorers rolled to a 25-11 win to open things up.
  • The second set was a different story, as Duquesne gathered itself, and surged ahead to take a 14-11 advantage. Kills by Corah and freshman Elizabeth Osborn sparked a 3-0 run that tied it, and the two teams went neck-and-neck all the way to 23 all. However, La Salle was able to capitalize on two Duquesne errors to snag the second set, 25-23.
  • In the final set, La Salle surged out to a 10-4 lead, and after facing some resistance from the Dukes, senior Madison Kuch reeled off three kills to spark a 7-1 run, forcing a Duquesne timeout. Ahead by nine, the junior Catherine Edgington recorded three quick kills to put La Salle at match point, and freshman Sam Fulkerson-Bird notched an ace to close it out.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Corah, who had a match-high 14 kills, became just the seventh player in program history to reach the 1,000-kill plateau, doing it in only her third season.
  • Kuch added 10 kills, while junior Kathryn Wood piled up 38 assists, five digs and three aces.
UP NEXT
  • La Salle will finish up the regular season on the road, visiting Dayton next on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
