Volleyball Falls to Dayton in Atlantic 10 Matchup

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University volleyball team (11-8, 4-2 A-10) fell to Dayton (14-5, 5-1 A-10) 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-21) on Saturday night. Prior to the contest against the Flyers, the Explorers won four straight conference matches, with back-to-back sweeps over Davidson and Rhode Island as well as 3-1 victories over both Fordham and Saint Louis.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • La Salle struggled to find its footing against A-10 offensive leader Lauren Bruns in the first set, resulting in a 25-14 loss to put Dayton at a 1-0 advantage.
  • Game two saw the Explorers settle in, making a four-point run in an effort to catch up to the Flyers.
  • Senior Madison Kuch registered six kills, narrowing the score to 22-17, but the Explorers could not gain control of the game and fell to Dayton 25-19 in the second set.
  • Determined to come back in game three, La Salle fought its way up to 23-19 with another strong performance from Kuch.
  • Despite their efforts, the Explorers were unable to pull ahead and Bruns struck down the final two kills of the third set to secure the match for the Flyers, 3-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Kuch led the Explorers offensively with 10 kills.
  • Senior Jensen Sharrits and junior Devin Corah paced the defense with three blocks and 15 digs, respectively. Sharrits remains at the top of the A-10 in digs (390) and digs/set (5.74).
  • Junior Kathryn Wood tallied 21 of La Salle's 23 assists and maintaining her first place rank in assists/set (11.09) in the league.  
UP NEXT
The Explorers are back on the road next week. La Salle will travel to Pittsburgh to contest Atlantic 10 foe, Duquesne. The matchup will take place on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+ (subscription required).
