Day One Complete for Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving at Bucknell Invite

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Blake Griffith was victorious in the three-meter diving competition, highlighting a solid first day for the La Salle men's and women's swimming and diving teams on Friday at the Bucknell Invitational.

Griffith helped the men's team score 295 points and stand in second place after the opening day, while the women tallied 167 points and are in sixth place heading into day two on Saturday.

NOTABLE RESULTS
Swimming Finals
  • 200 Free Relay (Norm Gregory, Marcus Forsgren, Daniel Johnson, Kyle McElwee)
    • Finished second to earn 44 points for the team, closing in 1:22.46
    • Towson took first in the event with a time of 1:21.91
  • Sara Rizzetto - Freshman - 2nd in 200 IM (2:04.12)
    • Held her seed in the A Final, narrowly missing first by a mere 13 hundredths of a second (Davidson's Sarah Helen Shepherd won gold)
  • Zachary Wolbert - Freshman - 4th in 200 IM
    • Earned 26 points for the Explorers and narrowly missed a podium finish in the A Final
  • Marcus Forsgren (Jr.) and Norm Gregory (Jr.) - 2nd & 3rd in 50 Free
    • Forsgren and Gregory compiled 55 points from their silver and bronze performances in the 50 free event
  • Blake Griffith & Steven Stasolla
    • Finished 1-2 in the final competition of the 3-meter dive, with Griffith registering the only 300+ score in the field (316.30)
    • Stasolla finished at 299.45, outdoing third place by almost 26 points

Preliminary Swimming Competition
  • Sara Rizzetto - Freshman - 2nd in 200 IM (2:04.94)
    • Just 18 hundredths of a second behind Towson's Megan Cowan for the top time in the prelims
  • Zachary Wolbert - Freshman - 3rd in 200 IM (1:51.47)
    • Closed behind Towson senior Jack Saunderson (1:48.94) and Old Dominion junior Nicholas Wukovits (1:50.97)
  • Norm Gregory - Junior - 2nd in 50 Free (20.67)
    • Finished behind Matthew Essing of Towson (20.24)
  • Marcus Forsgren - Junior - 5th in 50 Free (20.85)
Preliminary Diving Competition
  • Blake Griffith (Jr.) & Steven Stasolla (Fr.) - 3-meter Dive
    • The duo closed in first and second position, with Griffith posting a score of 318.45.
    • Stasolla scored a 308.75, with the third-best diver (Will Canny of Towson) registering a 266.65
  • Phoebe Shaya - 1-meter Dive
    • Finished ninth after the preliminary round with a score of 224.40, just missing out on advancement to the final
