PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team (0-4) opens Big 5 play on Tuesday when it travels just outside city limits to take on Villanova (2-0). Tuesday's game, which is the final of four straight road games, is set to tip at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on Nova Nation All-Access.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle is coming off of a loss at Towson, 92-68.
- Against the Tigers, the Explorers had season highs in points (68), field goals (18), field goal percentage (31.6%), and free throws made (29).
- Three scorers finished with double digit point totals for the first time this season. Sophomore Deja King paced the crew with 15 points, while classmate Michelle Nicholls and freshman Kayla Spruill added 11 apiece.
- Sophomore Rayshel Brown is leading the team in scoring with 8.3 points per game, while shooting a team high 43.3% from the floor.
- Junior Shalina Miller sits atop the team in rebounding, corralling 7.3 boards per game.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS:
- Villanova enters Tuesday's game with a 2-0 record after taking down Hartford and Lehigh.
- On the year, the team is averaging 64.5 points per game with three scorers in double figures. Kelly Jekot paces the team with 17.0 points per game, shooting 50% from the floor and an impressive 54.5% from long range on 6-of-11 shooting.
- Mary Gedaka and Jannah Tucker are also averaging double figure point totals with Gedaka at 16.5 and Tucker at 10.5.
- The Wildcats have used the same five starters through their first two games.
THE SERIES:
Villanova holds the all-time series advantage with a record of 39-9, including winning the last nine. La Salle last beat the Wildcats in 2008 with an overtime thriller at the Pavilion.
