La Salle, Northwestern To Meet on Second Day of The Wooden Legacy

FULLERTON, Calif. - The La Salle University men's basketball team continues its California road trip on Friday, Nov. 23, with a matchup with Northwestern in a consolation-round game at Titan Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., with the game airing live on ESPNU.

NEWS & NOTES
  • La Salle dropped the first game of The Wooden Legacy to Miami (Fla.), 85-49, on Thanksgiving Day.
  • The 49 points by the Explorers marked its fewest scored, as well as the fewest Miami has given up, since the two teams met in Reading, Pa. exactly one year earlier (57-46 Miami win on 11/22/17).
  • Freshman Jared Kimbrough scored a team-high 10 points, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the field.
  • Classmate Ed Croswell was the top rebounder on the squad, gathering six boards including four offensive.
  • The Explorers shot just 29.6 percent from the field in an opening half that saw the Hurricanes open up a 31-point lead.
  • A swarming second-half press by La Salle forced Miami into 12 turnovers in the period.
  • Leading scorer Pookie Powell had just eight points, snapping a streak of 10 straight double-figure scoring outings.
  • The Explorers shot 2-for-25 from three-point range, with the team's two top scorers (Powell and junior Isiah Deas) going a combined 0-for-9.
SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN
  • The Wildcats dropped their first game of the year on Thursday, falling to Fresno State, 73-54.
  • Northwestern committed 10 first-half turnovers and trailed by as many as 19 points in the opening period.
  • Vic Law had a team-high 13 points and was one of two Northwestern players in double figures (Dererk Pardon - 11).
  • Law is leading the team in scoring at 17.4 points per game and is shooting 42.9 percent from three-point range.
SERIES HISTORY
  • The meeting against Northwestern is the fifth in series history, including a matchup at last year's Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
  • B.J. Johnson scored 22 points to lead the Explorers, who outscored the Wildcats, 50-36, in the second half.
  • Bryant McIntosh led NU with 21 points and also dished out a team-high seven assists.
  • La Salle won the first three meetings between the two schools, with the first taking place during the 1963-64 season.
