Men's Swimming and Diving | November 7, 2018
PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will square off against Penn in a non-conference dual meet on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at Kirk Pool. The competition begins at 6:00 p.m., and admission is free for all spectators. Three days later, the two teams will travel to Newark, Del. for a tri-meet with Delaware and Rider that is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
ABOUT THE EXPLORERS
- The women's team last took to the pool this past Friday with a dual meet against Rhode Island.
- In a meet that came down to the wire, the Rams edged out the Explorers by a narrow 151-148 margin.
- Freshman Phoebe Shaya continued the stellar beginning to her collegiate career, earning victories in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
- Classmates Anne Moser and Sara Rizzetto also impressed, each coming away with multiple wins.
- The men return to the pool after a nearly two-week break, having last competed at the Atlantic 10 Classic.
- La Salle went 2-1 against A-10 teams in Ohio, defeating Saint Louis and St. Bonaventure.
- Freshman Zachary Wolbert was named A-10 Rookie of the Week after taking home wins in the 200 IM, the 400 IM and the 200 Fly.
SCOUTING PENN
- The women's team at Penn is coming off a 171-129 loss to Columbia last Friday, while the men earned a 172-128 victory over the Lions.
- Mark Andrew, an Ivy League champion last season, picked up a first-place finish in the 200 IM – one of the events that earned him a trip to the NCAA Championships last year – and a pair of second place finishes in the 200 free and 200 breast.
- For the women, senior Nancy Hu and junior Wendy Yang won the 200 fly (2:02.80) and 50 free (24.25), respectively.
SCOUTING DELAWARE
- Delaware's women's team is 1-2 on the year, while the men are 0-3.
- Most recently, the two teams competed in a pod meet with UNC Wilmington, William & Mary and James Madison.Â
- In dual action, the squads were swept at A-10 school George Mason on Oct. 13, with the women narrowly falling by a score of 153-147.
SCOUTING RIDER
- A pair of Rider women's swimmers took home Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference weekly awards this past week.
- Kylie McMahon was named the MAAC Women's Swimmer of the Week and junior Meg Tomayko was tabbed as the MAAC Women's Diver of the Week.
- Sophomore Dillon Walles was named the MAAC Men's Diver of the Week after winning the 3-meter diving competition against Marist.
