PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University men's basketball team (0-1) will play host to Lafayette (0-1) at Tom Gola Arena at TruMark Financial Center on Saturday afternoon. The game, which will air live on ESPN+ beginning at 3:00 p.m., is the marquee event for La Salle's Homecoming & Family Weekend.
NEWS & NOTES
•La Salle is coming off a 75-67 loss to Temple in the season opener for both teams on Tuesday evening.
•The contest was tied at 28-28 at halftime, before the Owls used a pair of 10-2 runs to take the lead for good.
•The Explorers continued to fight throughout and cut a once 12-point deficit to six with just over a minute left but a step-back jumper by Shizz Alston, Jr. sealed the game for Temple.
•Junior
Isiah Deas scored 23 points, one off his career high of 24 which he set last season at Bucknell.
•Five of the nine players who played for La Salle against Temple were playing their first games as Explorers.
•Junior transfer
Traci Carter made his debut after sitting out last season and had a solid all-around game, scoring 10 points and contributing five rebounds, four steals and two assists.
•Two more transfers -- graduate student
Cheddi Mosely and sophomore
David Beatty -- combined to play 39 minutes in the backcourt.
•Freshman
Jared Kimbrough led the team with seven rebounds despite playing just 10 minutes due to foul trouble, while fellow frosh
Ed Croswell had two points and three rebounds
ABOUT LAFAYETTE
•The Leopards suffered a 93-86, overtime loss to Saint Peter's in their first game of the year on Wednesday evening.
•Sophomore guard Justin Jaworski connected on six three-pointers and went for a career-high 28 points in the loss.
•Lafayette led by seven at halftime and had an opportunity to take the lead with 21 seconds left but missed a free throw.
•The Leopards hit 14 three-pointers for the game, with five more coming from Kyle Stout who finished with 17 points.
SERIES HISTORY
•La Salle leads the all-time series between the two schools, 35-10, with the last matchup coming in 2015-16.
•The Explorers earned an 83-75 win as
Jordan Price scored a game-high 33 points.
•Lafayette's last win came in 2004-05 (83-63).
