PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University women's basketball team (0-1) hits the road for a Sunday afternoon matchup against the Robert Morris Colonials (0-1). In their first road game of the season, the Explorers tipoff at noon, with the game being streamed on NEC Front Row.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle enters Sunday's contest 0-1 on the season after falling to Howard, 54-57, in the season opener this past Tuesday.
- Against the Bison, sophomore Rayshel Brown led the team in scoring with 10 points, adding nine rebounds. Junior Shalina Miller neared a double-double, tying her career high 12 rebounds, scoring nine points. Sophomore Michelle Nicholls and freshman Kayla Spruill also scored nine points apiece, with the rookie collecting 10 boards.
- In the team's loss to Howard, La Salle set a new team rebounding mark, eclipsing the old program record that was set in 1989. As a whole, the Explorers corralled 61 rebounds.
- First-year head coach Mountain MacGillivray eyes his first career victory on Sunday.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS:
- Robert Morris fell in its opener this past Tuesday against Youngstown State in overtime, 59-69.
- In the loss, Honoka Ikematsu paced the Colonials with 15 points. Closing in on double digits scoring totals were Nadege Pluviose (9) and Megan Callahan (8).
- Dangerous from long range, Robert Morris shot 41.7% from beyond the arc, converting 10-of-24.
- Under the direction of third-year head coach Charlie Buscaglia, the Colonials finished 25-8, falling in the NEC Conference Championship game last season and losing to Drexel in the opening round of the WNIT.
- Prior to last season, Robert Morris won three of the last four NEC Titles.
THE SERIES:
- La Salle and Robert Morris have met five times prior to Sunday's game, with the Explorers holding a 4-1 advantage.
- The teams last squared off in 2015, when the Colonials topped La Salle, 76-45. However, the Explorers beat Robert Morris the last time the teams played in Moon Township.
