Anniversary Teams to be Honored at Halftime of Men's Basketball Game on Feb. 17

PHILADELPHIA - In addition to the annual La Salle Hall of Athletes celebration on Saturday, Feb. 17, the La Salle Department of Athletics is welcoming back members from 10 different anniversary teams that had a tremendous amount of success during their time on campus.

Here's a snapshot of accomplishments from each team that will be honored.

1947-48 Men's Basketball Team (70th Anniversary)
- 20-4 Overall
- Advanced to the National Invitation Tournament
- Lost to Western Kentucky in opening round of the eight-team tournament
- Led in scoring by Bob Walters, the first player in La Salle history to record 1,000 career points

1952-53 Men's Basketball Team (65th Anniversary)
- 25-3 Overall
- Advanced to National Invitation Tournament
- Lost to eventual runner-up St. John's by one point (75-74) in quarterfinal round 
- Sophomore Tom Gola led the Explorers in both scoring (18.5 ppg) and rebounding (15.5 rpg)
- Season included wins over Arizona, Stanford, DePaul and Wake Forest

1962-63 Men's Basketball Team (55th Anniversary)
- 16-8 Overall, 7-1 MAC
- Advanced to National Invitation Tournament
- Dropped a tight opening-round game to Saint Louis, 63-61
- Junior Frank Corace paced the squad in scoring at 18.4 points per game, en route to First Team All-Big 5 honors

1967-68 Men's Basketball Team (50th Anniversary)
- 20-8 Overall, 8-0 MAC
- Advanced to NCAA Tournament for third time in school history
- Defeated Temple in Mid-Atlantic Conference championship game
- Junior Larry Cannon was a First Team All-Big 5 honoree after averaging 19.5 points and 9.9 rebounds 

1977-78 Men's Basketball Team (40th Anniversary)
- 18-12 Overall, 5-0 ECC
- Earned NCAA Tournament berth after going undefeated in East Coast Conference play
- Advanced to NCAA Tournament before falling to Villanova in the first round
- Michael Brooks, who had 35 points against the Wildcats in that NCAA game, averaged 24.9 points and 12.8 rebounds per game
- Brooks was named Big 5 Player of the Year

1982-83 Men's Basketball (35th Anniversary)
- 18-14 Overall, 7-2 ECC
- Swept through the ECC Tournament, including a title-game win over American, to earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament
- Defeated Boston University at the Palestra, 70-58, before falling to VCU in the second round of NCAA's
- Five players scored in double figures, led by Steve Black's 15 points
- Black averaged a team-best 20.1 points per game that season and was named First Team All-Big 5

1982-83 Women's Basketball Team (35th Anniversary)
- 16-13 Overall
- Defeated Lafayette, Lehigh and American consecutively to win the East Coast Conference Tournament title
- Made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, falling to South Carolina State in the first round
- Julie Reidenauer paced the squad in scoring at 11.0 points per game, and three eventual 1,000-point scorers were freshmen on the team (Suzi McCaffrey, Jill Crandley and Linda Hester)

1987-88 Men's Basketball Team (30th Anniversary)
- 24-10 Overall, 14-0 MAAC
- Went unbeaten in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, going 17-0 against league opponents including three straight wins at the MAAC Tournament
- Defeated Fordham, 79-70, at the Meadowlands in New Jersey to secure a berth into the NCAA Tournament
- Dropped a 66-53 decision to 20th-ranked Kansas State in the first round of NCAA's
- Future NBA players Lionel Simmons, Tim Legler and Doug Overton were key cogs on the championship team

1987-88 Women's Basketball Team (30th Anniversary)
- 25-5 Overall
- Set program record for single-season wins before it was broken the following year
- Earned at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament by virtue of regular-season victories over Oklahoma State, Saint Joseph's and two wins over Fairfield
- Lost heartbreaking 86-85 decision to Penn State in the first round of NCAA's
- Tracey Sneed paced the team in scoring at 16.7 points per game and also averaged a team-best 7.6 rebounds per outing

2012-13 Men's Basketball Team (5th Anniversary)
- 24-10 Overall, 11-5 A-10
- Earned at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament after regular season victories over Villanova, No. 9 Butler and No. 19 VCU
- Won Opening Round game over Boise State in Dayton, before defeating No. 12 Kansas State and Ole Miss to advance to the Sweet 16
- Ramon Galloway averaged 17.2 points per game in 2012-13 and was named First Team All-Big 5 along with Tyreek Duren
