Swimming and Diving

Men's Swimming and Diving | February 14, 2018

GENEVA, Ohio – After strong finishes to the regular season, the La Salle's men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be competing in this week's Atlantic 10 Championships at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Competition is set to begin on Wednesday and continue through the week.

Following the teams' winter break training trips in Florida, the men and women have combined for six wins in eight meets to close out the regular season.

"These athletes of have focused all year on this meet," said head swimming and diving coach Jamie Platt. "So obviously a lot of time has been spent in preparation for peak performance. I am excited to see their investment pay off and I know they are too!"

The men's team finished second in last year's Atlantic 10 Championship, gathering 528 points. The second place finish was an improvement from the season prior when the team finished third. The men also returned home with ten new school records.

The men set new school records in all five relay events. Fabian Bergman (100 and 200 back) and Aleksandar Nikolic (200 free) are two individual school record holders who are returning to help lead the Explorers in this season's championships. Bergman recently set a new Kirk Pool record in the 200 back and was named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week seven times this season.

The women's team also returned home from last year's Atlantic 10 Championships with multiple new records. Olivia DiStefano (100 back) and Hannah Elliott (200 back) will both return to the A-10 finals this year.

A pair of seniors lead the diving teams. Dylan Yurasits finished second in the one meter dive in last season's A-10 Championships and first the year before. Yurasits recently finished second in the one meter dive at the Penn State Diving Invite. At the same meet, Sydney Szopo took first in the three meter.
