Women’s Basketball Turned Away at GW in A-10 Championship Opening Round

WASHINGTON – The No. 12 seed La Salle women's basketball team fell 69-49 to No. 5 George Washington in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Championship on Tuesday night at the Smith Center.

The Explorers were leading by five points midway through the 2nd quarter before George Washington went on a 20-2 run in the 5:49 leading up to halftime to take a 36-23 lead into the break.

The Colonials capitalized on a La Salle scoring drought of almost six minutes during the 2nd quarter run, and didn't allow the Explorers to get in position to make a run of their own during the second half.

Adreana Miller had a team-high 14 points for La Salle while Shalina Miller added 13 and a team-high seven rebounds. The pair combined for 21 of La Salle's 23 points in the opening half.

Senior Amy Griffin finished with 12 points, six assists and five rebounds in her final collegiate game. Fellow senior Ashanti Freeland pulled down six boards.

Brianna Cummings led the Colonials with 18 points while Kelli Prange and Kelsi Mahoney both finished in double figures with 16 and 10, respectively. Mei-Lyn Bautista dished out a game-high nine assists to go with five points and three steals.

George Washington advances to the Atlantic 10 Championship Quarterfinals in Richmond to play No. 4 George Mason on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
