Box Score AMHERST, Mass. – The La Salle women's basketball team (7-16, 2-8) put together a 4
th quarter rally against Massachusetts (11-12, 3-7) that came up just short in a 69-66 loss to the Minutewomen on Sunday afternoon at the Mullins Center.
La Salle was within a possession of tying the game four different times over the final 3:02 but couldn't find the equalizer.
Shalina Miller hit a pair of foul shots with 38.8 seconds left to cut the Massachusetts lead to 65-63 before Hailey Leidel hit a running jumper on the ensuing possession to make it a four-point game.
Adreana Miller drilled a deep three with 0.6 seconds left to cut the deficit to 67-66 but La Salle was unable to steal the inbounds pass and had to foul with 0.2 seconds remaining. Maggie Mulligan hit both foul shots for UMass and the Explorers couldn't get a shot off in time to send the game to overtime.
Adreana Miller led all scorers with 23 points after going 5-for-11 from beyond the arc while
Shaquana Edwards had a season-high 10 assists on top of 11 points to tally her first career double-double.
Amy Griffin finished with 14 points to reach 1,644 for her career, which is one point shy of tying Crista Ricketts (2003-07) for third place on La Salle's all-time scoring list. The senior also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds to register her second double-double of the year.
La Salle got out to a strong start in the 1
st quarter, going on a 20-10 run midway through the quarter on the way to a 23-18 lead after 10 minutes. UMass, however, seized the lead for good before the half by outscoring La Salle 19-9 in the 2
nd quarter.
The Explorers return home for a pair of games next week. They'll host Saint Louis on Wednesday night before a Saturday afternoon tipoff against Richmond.
