Explorers Drop Two in Blue-White Classic

HAMPTON, Va. – The La Salle softball team (3-10) fell to the Omaha Mavericks (12-13) and the Hampton Pirates (8-12) on Saturday at the Lady Pirate Softball Complex.

Game 1: Omaha 5, La Salle 1
The Mavericks put up two runs in the top of the 3rd against Marlo Roadcap (L, 1-5) before Taylor Rohrbaugh's RBI double in the home half of the 3rd made it a one-run game.

Omaha got the run back in the 4th inning with a Jessica Nelson RBI single and added two more runs in the 5th inning. Roadcap was charged with five runs (four earned) over five frames, and matched her season-high with seven strikeouts.

Freshman Morgan Orlowski kept Omaha off the board over the final two innings, and allowed just one base runner.

The Explorers had seven hits against Omaha starter Sydney Hampton (W, 8-4), but the righty stranded runners in scoring position in the 3rd, 5th and 6th innings.

Game 2: Hampton 4, La Salle 3 (8 innings)
Hampton's Lorena Alvarez delivered the game-winning single with one out in the 8th inning to lift the Pirates to the win. Reilly Gearhart (L, 2-3) pitched the entire game for the Explorers, allowing three earned runs on five hits and five walks while striking out three.

The Explorers had tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the 7th on a Rohrbaugh sacrifice fly to center.

Emma Schweigert hit her third homer of the season in the 1st inning, a two-run blast that put the Explorers in front 2-0. La Salle held the two-run advantage until the Pirates took the lead with a three-run 6th inning.
