ARLINGTON, Va. – The La Salle University baseball team dropped an 8-2 decision at George Washington on Sunday, as the Colonials closed out a sweep in the first Atlantic 10 Conference series of the season with the win.
The Colonials took command early, jumping out to a 1-0 lead on a solo home run by Isaiah Pasteur in the first inning. George Washington then took full control in the third with a five-hit, five-run frame that pushed the difference to 6-0. Pasteur pushed the Colonial lead to 7-0 in the fourth with an RBI groundout.
The Explorers broke through and got on the board in the sixth inning. Freshman
Manny Garcia hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score senior
Austin Constantini for La Salle's first run. Sophomore
Dylan Evans followed that up with an RBI double to right to bring in junior
Ben Faso, cutting the deficit to five, 7-2.
La Salle had a golden opportunity to pull back within striking distance in the sixth with the bases loaded and one out, but the Explorers stranded the three on base.
Pasteur added to the George Washington lead with his second four-bagger of the day in the bottom of the sixth, an inside-the-park homer to make it 8-2.
Evans finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Constantini went 2-for-4 with a run and a walk. Constantini, who made his first career start on the mound for La Salle, took the loss after allowing six runs, though he managed to strike out five over three innings pitched.
La Salle (5-16, 0-3 A-10) will return to Philadelphia for four straight home games next, beginning with Delaware on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
