PHILADELPHIA – Three Explorers hit home runs and freshman
Colin Kennedy earned his first career win on the mound to power the La Salle University baseball team to its first Atlantic 10 Conference win of the season at home Saturday afternoon, 10-2 over Saint Joseph's.
Junior
Ben Faso racked up a career-high six RBI in the win, extending his hit streak to 12 games by going 2-for-4 with two runs. Faso, senior
Brian Dudeck and sophomore
Ryan Guckin each went deep for the Explorers, the team's first multi-homer game of the season.
Kennedy (1-4) gave up just the two runs along with eight hits over six innings of work, striking out five.
The Hawks took a one-run lead in the top of the first inning, but the Explorers answered right back, with Faso sending his second homer of the season to left field, a three-run shot to bring in Dudeck and senior
Austin Constantini for a 3-1 lead.
Dudeck then pushed the advantage to 4-1 in the fifth on a solo shot to left, his second long ball of the season.
Saint Joseph's briefly cut the deficit to two on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning before La Salle went off for six runs in the seventh.
In the seventh, Faso smacked a bases-clearing, three-run double to left center to score Dudeck, senior
Yan Carlo Rivera and freshman
Manny Garcia. Faso later stole home to give the Explorers an 8-2 lead before Guckin hit a two-run blast to left, his third of the year, giving La Salle a 10-2 advantage.
With the bases loaded in the eighth inning, Saint Joseph's threatened to cut its deficit, but junior
Connor Hinchliffe struck out the final three batters of the inning to prevent any damage.
La Salle (6-19, 1-5 A-10) will travel to Rider on Tuesday as part of the Liberty Bell Classic. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
