Women's Water Polo | March 9, 2018
ALBANY, NY - The women's water polo team is set to face three tough MAAC opponents this weekend in upstate New York. The Explorers will take on Wagner on Saturday at noon and then VMI at 6:00 PM. On Sunday, they'll face Marist at 3:00 PM to conclude the weekend.
The weekend should be tough for the Explorers, but also a great opportunity to challenge themselves. Wagner enters the game nationally ranked #17 in the nation while Marist is ranked #23.
Wagner has wins over three ranked opponents this season including #21 Harvard (twice), #13 Hartwick, and #13 San Diego State.
The Red Foxes recently re-entered the top 25 after defeating #13 Hartwick last week. Jessica Hermosillo was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week. Hermosillo made 37 saves in four games at the Indiana Classic.
VMI won't be a cakewalk either. The Keydets defeated La Salle earlier this season, 16-8.
The Explorers have had their share of success this season and are still coming into their own as a team. As a squad of all freshmen and sophomores, there will be understandable growing pains.
Jillian Delisle leads the team in scoring with 10 goals.
Stephanie Morales (nine) and
Karle Linden (eight) are right behind her, forming an offensive trio that can hang with anyone in the MAAC.
In goal,
Jenny Fermaintt has 22 saves this season.
