WASHINGTON – The La Salle softball team (11-21, 2-8 A-10) dropped a pair of close games at George Washington (26-13, 6-5 A-10) on Saturday at the GW Softball Field. Sunday's series finale has been moved to 9 a.m. due to the threat of inclement weather later in the day.
Game 1: GW 12, La Salle 10
After falling behind 10-1 over the first two innings, the Explorers scored nine unanswered runs to tie the game at 10-10 in the 6
th. GW then posted the deciding runs in the home half of the 6
th on a two-run homer by Sierra Lange, her second long ball of the game.
Taylor Rohrbaugh, who had three RBI's in the game, doubled with two outs in the 7
th to bring the tying run to the plate but La Salle couldn't muster any more offense.
Rohrbaugh had a sac fly to give La Salle a 1-0 lead in the 1
st inning before the Colonials scored 10 runs over their first two at-bats. La Salle starter
Marlo Roadcap struggled, allowing 10 earned runs before exiting with two outs in the 2
nd.
McKenzie Peace (L, 0-1) got the final out in the 2
nd and held the Colonials scoreless until Lange's homer in the 6
th.
La Salle started the rally by scoring twice in the 4
th and added three more in the 5
th. Rohrbaugh and
Emily Conaway drew back-to-back walks with the bases loaded in the 5th to force in runs, and
Jackie Heim drove in another run with an RBI fielder's choice.
The Explorers then tied the game at 10-10 with a four-run 6
th, capped by Heim's two-run single with two outs and the bases loaded.
Game 2: George Washington 4, La Salle 3 (9 innings)
The Colonials scored twice in the 7
th to tie the game at 3-3 before Marta Fuentes hit a single with the bases loaded in the 9
th to seal the win for GW in walk-off fashion.
La Salle took a 2-0 advantage in the 1
st inning on a Rohrbaugh RBI single and a sac fly by Conaway.
Angelina Refice plated an insurance run in the top of the 7
th with an infield single that made it a 3-1 game.
GW got a run back in the home half of the 1
st but
Reilly Gearhart (L, 5-6) held the Colonials scoreless for the next five innings. Gearhart threw all 8.1 innings, yielding 11 hits but just one walk.
