Softball Drops Two at GW, Series Finale Moved to 9 AM Sunday

WASHINGTON – The La Salle softball team (11-21, 2-8 A-10) dropped a pair of close games at George Washington (26-13, 6-5 A-10) on Saturday at the GW Softball Field. Sunday's series finale has been moved to 9 a.m. due to the threat of inclement weather later in the day.

Game 1: GW 12, La Salle 10
After falling behind 10-1 over the first two innings, the Explorers scored nine unanswered runs to tie the game at 10-10 in the 6th. GW then posted the deciding runs in the home half of the 6th on a two-run homer by Sierra Lange, her second long ball of the game.

Taylor Rohrbaugh, who had three RBI's in the game, doubled with two outs in the 7th to bring the tying run to the plate but La Salle couldn't muster any more offense.

Rohrbaugh had a sac fly to give La Salle a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning before the Colonials scored 10 runs over their first two at-bats. La Salle starter Marlo Roadcap struggled, allowing 10 earned runs before exiting with two outs in the 2nd.

McKenzie Peace (L, 0-1) got the final out in the 2nd and held the Colonials scoreless until Lange's homer in the 6th.

La Salle started the rally by scoring twice in the 4th and added three more in the 5th. Rohrbaugh and Emily Conaway drew back-to-back walks with the bases loaded in the 5th to force in runs, and Jackie Heim drove in another run with an RBI fielder's choice.

The Explorers then tied the game at 10-10 with a four-run 6th, capped by Heim's two-run single with two outs and the bases loaded.

Game 2: George Washington 4, La Salle 3 (9 innings)
The Colonials scored twice in the 7th to tie the game at 3-3 before Marta Fuentes hit a single with the bases loaded in the 9th to seal the win for GW in walk-off fashion.

La Salle took a 2-0 advantage in the 1st inning on a Rohrbaugh RBI single and a sac fly by Conaway. Angelina Refice plated an insurance run in the top of the 7th with an infield single that made it a 3-1 game.

GW got a run back in the home half of the 1st but Reilly Gearhart (L, 5-6) held the Colonials scoreless for the next five innings. Gearhart threw all 8.1 innings, yielding 11 hits but just one walk.
