WASHINGTON – The La Salle softball team (12-21, 3-8 A-10) defeated George Washington (26-14, 6-6 A-10) 10-8 on Sunday afternoon in the series finale at the GW Softball Field.
Freshman
Morgan Orlowski got the final three outs to earn her first career save, stranding the tying run on second base to preserve the win.
Reilly Gearhart (W, 7-6) tossed the first six-plus innings as the Explorers scored 10 runs for the second game in a row.
The Explorers scored in the top of the 1
st for the third straight game, taking a 1-0 lead on
Jackie Heim's two-out RBI single.
Bridget Magee extended the lead to 4-0 with a three-run blast in the 3
rd inning, and La Salle added two runs in the 4
th on RBI singles from
Emily Conaway and Heim.
The Colonials, however, answered with five runs over the next three frames to make it a one-run game heading into the 7
th. La Salle scored four insurance runs in their half of the 7
th thanks to RBI doubles from
Marissa Ewald and
Emma Schweigert, and an RBI single by
Ashley Mendenhall.
The Explorers make the short trip to Drexel on Wednesday for a doubleheader with the Dragons.
