PHILADELPHIA – Emma Schweigert homered twice in a doubleheader at Drexel but the La Salle softball team (12-23) dropped both games to the Dragons at the Drexel Softball Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Game 1: Drexel 10, La Salle 5
The Dragons jumped out to a 9-0 lead over the first three innings against
Reilly Gearhart (L, 7-7), who exited with two outs in the 3
rd.
McKenzie Peace threw the final 3.1 innings, holding the Dragons to an unearned run in the 5
thinning.
The Explorers scored three times in the 4
th on a two-run homer from
Bridget Magee and a sac fly by
Lauren Morell.
Emma Schweigert drilled her eighth home run of the season in the 6
th inning to cut the deficit to 10-5, but the Explorers couldn't get any closer.
Schweigert, Morell, Magee and
Deanna Pineiro all had two hits for La Salle in the opener as the Explorers posted 10 hits in the game.
Game 2: Drexel 10, La Salle 2
The Dragons led 8-2 heading into the 6
th inning before a Kristi DiMeo two-run homer ended the game. Drexel scored six runs over the first two innings against
Morgan Orlowski (L, 2-4), who threw all five innings for La Salle.
Drexel scored twice in the 1
st, but
Marissa Ewald had an RBI double in the 2
nd to make it a 2-1 game. The Dragons, however, scored four runs in the home half of the 2
nd.
Schweigert hit a solo shot in the 3
rd but the Dragons answered with a run in the home half of the 3
rd and another in the 5
th.
