PHILADELPHIA – The George Mason Patriots (18-24, 8-8 A-10) took both games of a doubleheader with La Salle (12-25, 3-10 A-10) on Saturday afternoon at West Campus Field.
Game 1: George Mason 7, La Salle 1
The Patriots scored five runs over the final three frames to earn a 7-1 victory in the first game. La Salle's
Ashley Mendenhall tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single in the 1
st inning before George Mason's offense clicked in the late innings.
Reilly Gearhart (L, 7-8) worked her 10
th complete game of the season, allowing five earned runs on nine hits and five walks while fanning two. Bekah Ansbro (W, 8-8) threw a complete-game for the visitors, striking out nine while giving up just three hits and no free passes.
Game 2: George Mason 5, La Salle 1
Miah Wilson gave the Patriots a 2-0 lead in the 2
nd inning on a homer against La Salle starter
Marlo Roadcap (L, 3-12).
Marissa Ewald halved the GMU lead with an RBI grounder in the 2
nd, and the Explorers had two runners on and no outs in the 3
rd but couldn't capitalize.
The Patriots added a run in the 4
th and two more in the 6
th to chase Roadcap from the game.
Morgan Orlowski tossed the final 1.2 innings for the Explorers, allowing two hits and walk after entering with the bases loaded and one out in the 6th.
The series finale is set for Sunday at noon at West Campus Field.
