BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame will welcome 15 new members to its esteemed group as part of the Class of 2018, including La Salle University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Bill Bradshaw, it was announced on Tuesday by the organization.
"To be honored by the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame is a distinct honor and humbling for this Western New York native," Bradshaw said.
Bradshaw, a Lewiston, N.Y. native, graduated from the former Bishop Duffy High in Niagara Falls before attending La Salle University from 1965-69. An All-American baseball player at La Salle, he did not miss an inning at second base during his sophomore through senior seasons.
One of the top middle infielders in the country, Bradshaw set school records in many categories, including hits and RBIs. As a senior, he was second in the nation in RBIs (35) and fourth in stolen bases (22). Over his four-year career, he held a .360 career batting average.
Bradshaw played professional baseball in the Washington Senators organization before returning to Western New York. He also played semi-professional baseball in the Western New York area for five years.
As a captain and starting shortstop for the Sloan Bruins, an amateur team in the Buffalo area, Bradshaw helped lead the squad to the 1970 National Amateur Championship. At the tail end of his semi-pro playing days, he also accepted the position as head baseball coach at Niagara University (1973-74).
A member of the La Salle University Athletic Hall of Athletes, Bradshaw returned to his alma mater following his stint at Niagara, serving eight years as Director of Athletics from 1978-86.
Bradshaw moved on and spent 16 years as the Director of Athletics at DePaul University (1986-02) before returning to the Philadelphia area to take over at Temple University. After a nearly 12-year tenure at Temple, Bradshaw returned to La Salle as interim Director of Athletics in March of 2016. The interim tag was removed a year later.
In 2014, Bradshaw was inducted into the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Hall of Fame and served as the organization's president in 2001-02.
Bradshaw joins a group of elite athletes, coaches and administrators to be enshrined into the organization, including such names as Ron Jaworski (Philadelphia Eagles), Calvin Murphy (Houston Rockets), Jim Kelly (Buffalo Bills), Dominik Hasek (Buffalo Sabres), Marv Levy (Buffalo Bills), Bob Lanier (St. Bonaventure basketball) and Christian Laettner (Duke basketball).Â
