PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore
Ryan Guckin hit his fourth home run of the season, but the La Salle University baseball team fell to Saint Louis, 11-1, in the series finale from Hank DeVincent Field on Sunday.
After the Billikens took a 2-0 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth inning, Guckin lifted a 1-0 pitch out of the park to left field, pulling the Explorers within just a run midway through.
However, Saint Louis took advantage of a La Salle error in the sixth, scoring seven runs, six of which were unearned. The Billikens added two more in the seventh to go on top, 11-1.
Sophomore
Erik Janss drew the loss despite giving up only one run and two hits over three innings. Janss matched his career high with five strikeouts on the day. Freshman
Alexarmando Diaz and senior
Austin Constantini each pitched scoreless innings of relief in the eighth and ninth, respectively.
The Explorers will now embark on a nine-game road stretch, beginning with Villanova on Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. tilt.
