DAYTON, Ohio – The La Salle softball team (9-17, 2-4 A-10) dropped the opening game of a three-game set with the Dayton Flyers (14-19, 5-4 A-10) on Saturday afternoon at the UD Softball Stadium.
The Flyers got on the board with a run in the 1
st before freshman
Deanna Pineiro clubbed her first career home run to even the game at 1-1 in the 3
rd.
Emma Schweigert then drilled a one-out homer to center to put the Explorers on top 2-1.
La Salle held the one-run lead until the 5
th when Dayton scored four runs to take the lead for good. La Salle's
Marlo Roadcap (L, 3-10) got two quick outs before Kayla Haberstich reached on an error. Kailee Budicin then walked and Lisa Tassi singled to set the table for an Abby Ehrenborg grand slam.
Roadcap allowed just one earned run in six innings, striking out six while allowing five hits and four walks. Roadcap's counterpart, Manda Cash, limited the Explorers to a pair of runs over seven innings, scattering six hits and three walks.
The Explorers will play a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.
