SORRELS AND DUDECK EARN PHILLY RECOGNITION
Earlier this week, junior infielder
Peyton Sorrels was chosen as the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week, while senior outfielder
Brian Dudeck was tabbed as the Philadelphia Baseball Review Hitter of the Week. Sorrels had a breakout week, hitting .500 over five games with two runs and three extra-base hits, including a 4-for-5 performance at LIU Brooklyn. It was the sixth Big 5 weekly award of the season for the Explorers. Meanwhile, Dudeck posted three multi-hit games and batted .388 with three runs last week.
STAT STUFFERS
As a team, La Salle ranks fifth in the A-10 in triples with 12 on the year. The Explorers are also sixth in hits (424) and doubles (74), while the pitching staff ranks fifth in the league in strikeouts with 368, an average of 7.85 per nine innings. Individually, junior
Ben Faso leads the team and is seventh in the conference with a .332 batting average. Faso is also fourth in hits (64) and ninth in doubles (13), and he is just seven hits and one double away from entering the school's top-10 single season lists in each of those categories. Senior
Austin Constantini is batting .303 and has been the toughest to strike out in the A-10 all season long with a 12.2 at-bats per strikeout ratio. Constantini is also ninth in the league with four saves on the mound.
SCOUTING THE SPIDERS
Richmond enters the weekend with a 10-8 conference mark and a 16-10 home record. The Spiders have won six of their last nine games, defeating Longwood on the road in their last appearance, 3-2. Vinny Capra leads the team in just about every offensive category, hitting .327 with 33 runs scored, 33 RBIs and a .473 slugging percentage. Right-hander Robbie Baker (7-1) leads the pitching staff with a 2.57 ERA and 61 strikeouts.
Tim Miller (2-3, 3.56 ERA) and Aaron Winkler (2-7, 5.83 ERA) are expected to start the first two games, while Baker is Sunday's projected starter.
SCOUTING THE BLUE HENS
Delaware and La Salle met back on March 27, a 7-3 victory for the Blue Hens at Hank DeVincent field. The Explorers took a 2-1 lead in the first inning before the Blue Hens slowly but surely added to their run total. Calvin Scott went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs for Delaware, while Dudeck was 2-for-3 to pace La Salle. Delaware (25-23) will play a three-game series at William & Mary this weekend. The Blue Hens have an impressive 17-9 record at home but are just 3-6 overall in their last nine games, falling at UMBC the last time out. Kyle Baker leads the squad with a .353 average, 32 RBIs and a .488 slugging percentage, while Nick Patten has hit eight homers. Delaware hits .249 as a unit and has a 4.06 team ERA.
ON DECK
The Explorers will conclude the regular season next weekend when they welcome George Mason for a three-game home series (May 17-19), capped off by Senior Day on Saturday, May 19.
