PHILADELPHIA - Three La Salle University sport programs, including men's and women's basketball, have received NCAA Academic Progress Rate Public Recognition Awards for ranking in the top ten percent of their sport, it was announced on Wednesday.
In addition to the two basketball programs, men's tennis was cited by the organization for a fifth consecutive year. It also marks the fourth straight year that men's basketball has been recognized.
"The student-athletes from these three programs should be commended for their dedication in the classroom," Director of Athletics
Bill Bradshaw said. "We take a great deal of pride in our academic performance at La Salle, and these teams represent the very best of our department."
Each year, the NCAA honors select Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multi-year NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate. The public recognition is based on scores compiled through the 2016-17 academic year.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
