Men's Track and Field | May 25, 2018
TAMPA, Fla. – Sophomore
Anthony Hawthorne of the La Salle University men's track team punched his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Oregon after his performance in the 800-meter run at the East Preliminary Championships on Friday.
Hawthorne becomes the 15th men's outdoor national qualifier in program history. Even more, he is the second 800-meter representative from La Salle in the last three years, as
Chris Sanders made it to nationals in 2016.
After advancing to the regional finals with a second place showing in his heat on Thursday with a time of 1:49.63, Hawthorne finished third in his 800 heat on Friday to snag the final qualifying spot. He posted an even faster time on Friday, finishing the race in 1:48.41 to move on.
Hawthorne advances to the national semifinals in the 800 meters, which is scheduled for Wednesday, June 6, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
