LORETTO, Pa. – The La Salle University field hockey team (3-3) fell to Saint Francis U., 4-0, in its first Atlantic 10 match on Friday. The Red Flash scored three times in the second half to break away from the Explorers and improve to 3-4 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- La Salle started things off with an early chance, as freshman Willow Oh made a run up the field for the first attempt at goal.
- St. Francis escaped another close call at the net after the senior Logan Oh played a penalty corner to the middle, allowing both freshman Shannon O'Reilly and sophomore Rialee Allen to get shots off.
- Oh and O'Reilly attempted the same play later in the half but SFU's goalie was able to deflect the shot wide.
- SFU jumped in front following a penalty corner with 14:35 to go in the opening half. Provost blocked the first shot but the deflection was received by the Red Flash and then sent past Provost for a goal.
- The Explorers kept the score tight, leaving for intermission trailing 1-0 at halftime.
- The second half opened with alternating turnovers between the Red Flash and the Explorers, as La Salle looked for the equalizer.
- The Red Flash scored just 2:29 into the second half and would go on to score twice more.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Shannon O'Reilly and Rialee Allen led the Explorers with three shots each.
- The loss puts La Salle at 3-3 on the season.
- This is the first game of the year the Explorers did not post a goal.
